1- Peonies symbolize wealth and honor and they are regarded as good omen of fortune and happy marriage.

2 - The are the 12th wedding anniversary flower.

3 - Peonies come in every color but blue.

4 - The most fragrant peonies are pink.

5 - The Peony is the state flower of Indiana.

6- Cooked and sweetened peony petals are eaten as dessert in China.

7 - Peonies are known as the Northern Flower because they prefer harsh winter temperatures.

8 - Peony plants can live to be 100 and still produce flowers.

9 - Ants help peonies bloom. Ants are attracted to a nectar that the flower bud produces. They will climb up the plant and help open the buds to get to the nectar that is inside. Peonies can bloom without the ants’ assistance, but they help the process along. Ants also help the peonies by keeping other, damaging insects away.

10 - The Chinese name for the peony is sho yu, which means ‘most beautiful.’

Another springtime favorite of mine are LILACS ….. and yes very rarely these two amazing flowers are available at the same time even if for a very shortly period as Lilac season in Southern California is extremely quick…. You snooze you lose:)
